The working principle of AOI is to first collect and input parameters such as images, component positions, solder joints and other parameters of the good-quality board. During the inspection, the instrument automatically scans the circuit board and automatically captures the image, and then compares the collected data with the pre-entered parameters to determine whether the characteristics of solder joints, components and other aspects are consistent. If the data is inconsistent, the defect will be flagged through the display for maintenance personnel to repair.
AOI is mainly used to inspect solder paste printing, component placement and soldering. For example: too much or too little solder paste, solder paste printing offset; component misplacement, missing component placement, or component displacement; virtual soldering, empty welding, short circuit and other problems. AOI can inspect not only defects that cannot be inspected manually, but also components and solder joints that cannot be touched by the needle bed during in-line inspection. AOI can collect the work quality of each process in the production process and the types of defects that occur, and feed them back to relevant personnel for analysis and management, so as to reduce the scrap rate of PCBA.
Although AOI inspection has great advantages compared with manual inspection, AOI inspection is not omnipotent, and there are also technical blind spots, resulting in misjudgment. In this time, manual judgment is required.
